Phuket Training Camp, Thailand
Wednesday 01 October - Sunday 05 October,
2008
After six years of running, this camp will be very similar to previous years: we are
back at the beautiful Andaman White Beach Resort,
our preferred camp location in Phuket. Enjoy excellent food and Thai-style luxury, sunsets on the beach and daily
soothing massage treatments in your room to recover from the daily training.
The Tribob camp officially starts the evening of Wednesday 01 October with a
dinner
around 8:00pm. Please target to arrive any time that day, check in at your convenience and
we will convene around the pool at 8.00pm. Please send
your flight details to Lorena (lorena@tribob.com)
for your airport-hotel transfer to be arranged.

We take 30 athletes to this Phuket adventure every year. Note that to date (late-July)
there are < 5 places left on
this popular training camp (this camp fills up every year) so if you think
you would like to attend, please contact us via
admin@tribob.com
as soon as you can.

The rationale for this camp is to insert 3-4 days of hard training at a time of
year
where both your volume and intensity should be high (relative to your personal
level) in preparation for the Phuket triathlon race. The program is
repetitive in the sense that we ride the race bike course 4-5 times over
the course of the camp. This
is intentional – the aim is for you to know the race course by heart. We
will be putting on our usual morning sea swims in the sea off the Resort,
probably the prettiest sea swim location in South-east Asia. At this time of
year, the sea is usually quite calm.

As every year,
we will cater for all levels with 3 groups (white, red and black) during
both swimming and cycling, with three coaches present, so
anyone - of any level of ability - is welcome.
We will design a program and seed you, but after discussion with us you
may place youself in any group on any day, depending on how you feel.
During the first briefing, we'll discuss the group structure.
Athletes wishing to stay extra nights
at Andaman are welcome and
should make accommodation arrangements directly with Khun Pom at the resort.

Levels of
Ability. We will have three groups on the road during each cycling
session; each group of 10
riders supervised by a coach.
White Group
made up of
“strong beginners”. If you have not done many training rides
above 50km, this group is for you and we will put on
easy-paced rides focusing on getting to know the race
course. No-one gets dropped from this group, i.e. we wait at
intersections and ensure the groups stays together the whole
day.
Red Group
made up of "intermediate-level"
athletes. To join this group, you should be capable of
completing the challenging Rawai trip (100km), albeit at a
leisurely pace with plentiful stops.
If you're in this group, it's likely you
can do < 1:25 for OD
triathlon bike split,
or < 1:55 for your
Phuket triathlon bike split.
Black Group
are the serious
athletes, typically folks who are focused on the upcoming Phuket race, and who typically anticipate a
finish time of 2:50-3:20 in the race. The rides for this group will
be reasonably fast with minimal stops, so you need to be
in decent shape and adept at riding in a fast pack. Read
"Black Group are the biggest sandbaggers." by David Young.

THAI MASSAGE- Available daily
at the resort, organised by Tribob and included in your camp fee.
FREE-FLOW DRINKS- As
usual, free-flow drinks are provided by Tribob at all meals, including wine
and beer.
