Frasers' Hill, Malaysia
Dates coming for 2009. Thanks to all those who came for the 2008 adventure!

Camp rationale

Our Fraser's Hill camp is designed to build on your early base phase of bike training: long slow distance (LSD) training. This kind of easy riding on quiet, well-surfaced roads, chatting with friends - is perfect for developing aerobic endurance.

In total 500km over 4 days: to the daily rides we will add a few (optional) run sessions.

Fraser's Hill is billed as: "the prettiest hill resort, evoking the charm of the English countryside. Accessible by a beautiful road affording wonderful forest views. A serene getaway from city life."

Actually, that's pretty accurate: the highlight of this trip is the afternoon of the third day where we tackle the long winding climb to Fraser's Hill (altitude 1200m), one of the most beautiful rides in Malaysia. This gradual climb is around 30km in length, going through fascinating changes in tropical rainforest scenery as we ascend in the late afternoon.

Please note that this Fraser's Hill camp is NOW FULLY BOOKED. If you have registered for this camp you will receive updates and further information via email.

Camp format

This cycling camp starts in Singapore on Friday morning, 21 March (a public holiday in Singapore). We ride to Fraser's Hill over the course of 3 days. The general purpose is to get miles in your legs, so most of the riding is easy milage. Our route takes us via Desaru, Mersing and the rural east coast of Malaysia. Cycling mileage is 450km over three days before arriving at the Smoke House Hotel on Sunday, plus 50km on the Monday afternoon descent.

Other thoughts:

  • Climate in Fraser's Hill can be cooler than Singapore; bring long trousers and/or a pullover.

  • Due to the high volume of cycling, your bike should be in good order. There are no good bike shops on the route we are taking, so a ripped tyre or broken cleat can end your camp - ensure that your brakes, tyres and cleats are in good condition.

  • Bring plenty of spare tubes - you can store the extras in the luggage in our backup vehicle (Tribob will not carry any extras for you, but we WILL have a track pump available).

  • If you are apprehensive about completing the daily distances, it is feasible to get into the van in case of fatigue - there will be a back-up 10-seater bus following us for the entire journey. This bus will also carry all your luggage; at no point do you have to carry your bag.
